A different loose mirror problem

Someone was asking about the roof mount joint, but my LMC repro mirror has a different problem: the ball and socket part is loose.

Is there any kind of adjustment, or what else can I try? I was born in Canada so my natural instinct is to put some maple syrup on it so it gets sticky and doesn't flop around, but there's probably a better way.

Ideas? I still have my original, so if I could transfer the mirror to my original (where the mirror is damaged) so long as I can polish out the stainless well enough.
