new 700r4 question 2wd to 4wd?

Well, I'm still considering Bowtie.com like you guys suggested. But I cam across a 700R4 in a wrecked 2wd suburban that works and is cheap. I can get the engine and tranny for 250 bucks. I'm thinking with all the other mods on my truck I'd like to do first that I might get it. Do you guys know if a 700r4 from a 2wd will go into a 4wd. The suburban is an 87, my truck is an 86. I've heard you have to change the output shaft, is this correct. Thanks guys.
