A buddy of mine likes to make stuff rather than buy it. He wants to make a panhard bar for the truck he is building. He is considering using Schedule 80 3/8" black pipe, od is .675" and id is .423 and he is going to drill and tap for a 1/2" fine thread Heim joint. The Heim joints have 1/2" holes to affix to the axle tube and frame.

Anyone have thoughts on whether that setup is strong enough for a panhard bar?

Also, is there a specific angle he should try to have the panhard bar at?

The specific application is a 1965 Chevy C10 with a 1972 coil spring truck rearend.
