Fuel line...5/16" to 3/8" transition at pump?

My truck is a 67 GMC SWB, originally with a 250 6 cyl, now has a mildly built 383 stroker.

I have the factory 5/16" steel line that runs from the in-cab tank, then it goes along the frame, stopping in the engine compartment near the fuel pump.

From that point I have a piece of 5/16" rubber going into some brass fittings (5/16" nipple-->coupler-->3/8" nipple) and then a piece of 3/8" rubber line to match the inlet tube size on the fuel pump.

I don't like having that brass transition and wondered if there was a better way to do this section of fuel line?

I tried clamping a piece of 3/8" rubber line onto the 5/16" line from the tank but didn't like that. I did not try to stretch a piece of 5/16" rubber over the 3/8" fuel pump inlet.

What are you guys doing in this situation?

The parts guys tell me they can't get a SBC fuel pump with a 5/16" intake tube.
