Does saw dust really fix a tranny?

My buddy had this tranny that was slipping soooo bad last week.......this morning I drove it and it shifted hard and nice and I figured he had it serviced or replaced.....when I asked him what was serviced, he said he put about 2 1/2 cups of extra fine saw dust in it......I thought it was just a myth....but let me tell ya....it shifted damn nice considering it needed a new tranny a week ago.......has anyone else done this? I've done the aspirin in the battery thing and it works great.
