64 No power any where other than "Batt" on ignition
Hey guys and gals.
So I am building a 64 C10. Put the front clip back on and connected all bulk head plugs, battery, starter etc. I had no power to any of the truck. Pulled out the meter and started checking wires. I found a bad connection at the battery to the Horn relay / Voltage regulator. I fixed that and wha-lah! I had power everywhere. Lights, dash, etc... all good. Hit the key to start the truck and as soon as I had it in the start position.... I hear a noise as if a relay or something clicked (definitely not the sound of the starter solenoid) and NOTHING again.... No power to lights, dash dummy lights, horn, anything.... SO I started tracing power again and have found it was not the same problem as before. I have power to the horn relay / Voltage regulator, then through the firewall to the ignition switch on the "BATT" terminal. and thats the end of it. I turned the key to the start position and checked the "SOL" terminal to see if I was getting power to the solenoid and I have nothing there. This leads me to believe the ignition switch is bad....?....? It then dawned on me that I have no power elsewhere and a bad ignition switch doesnt explain that. Could the Voltage regulator and the ignition switch both be bad? Its not common, but the truck ran a month ago with no issues starting or running. I know the system isnt that complicated (relatively speaking) but I am not familiar with it yet. Thanks all! |
