Windshield washer not staying primed

My windshield washer will not stayed primed. My pump works great & my squirters are clean, but if it sits for a few hours or days it takes forever for it to get fluid back up to the squirters. It seems to have gotten worse since I shortened the supply line, I had way too much extra line coiled up inside the fender well & shortened it thinking it would get fluid up to the squirters quicker. But I guess I wrong about that. Any suggestions besides replacing the original pump with an electric pump?
