Am I missing something?? Defroster duct - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I can't get this figured out, and this is the third truck I've had issues with, help!

I went tonight to replace the defrost lever in my heater controls - which went great until the pot-metal stud holding the levers on the back of the face broke, so now tomorrow I'm drilling the face for screws.

Anyway, when I look up under the dash, the passenger's defroster duct is off its outlet on the heater box, and the blower control cable (goes to the bottom of the heater box from the vent lever) goes right over the outlet, where the hose should be. If I push it out of the way (front or back) to install the duct, the lever gets really stiff. What gives??

My '69 K10 and the '72 C30 to K30 build I did were both like this, too. Where is that cable supposed to go, and why doesn't it want to go there?
