Refreshing a 78 shortbed to a bagged DD
Hello all, I have owned many of these pickups in the past and currently drive a 72 Burb.
I picked up a non running 78 Shortbed GMC Sierra a few weeks ago and finally recieved the title on Friday. So my weekends project has began. Well that afternoon I picked up a good straight hood at a local wrecking yard then later that night I want to see what all the black paint and primer was on the truck for, so I started sanding and pulling it apart. The truck has a lot of rust in the lower passenger fender (I have a new one to replace it) and a little in the driverside fender (that will be repaired with patch panels) and some rust on the firewall at the wiper assembly, I think that is because the hood was left open for a few years (I have another parts cab for that piece). Sunday I picked up a nice set of doors because the passenger door has a very big dent and rust, then it was back to sanding the on body. This morning I got up early and picked up a nice needed winshield for the truck also. This will be a weekends project with hopes to have it DRIVING by the middle of this Summer. BTW. it will also get the older GMC grille, 2 tone blue and white paint, stepped notched and bagged frame, an nice engine and trans and I will freshen up the interior. I'm curious to know what you all think of the plans. Any advice will be greatly appreciated along the way. Thanks to you all in advance. |
