1964 C10 Build Pontiac 389!!

I just wanted to show off my sick build. 64 C10

When I was 14 or 15 my dad said he had a surprise for me. I had sold a cow for a 4-H project some years back and still had some money in my savings account that I couldn't touch until I turned 18. It was to be used for only very important things. We drove into Lewistown, Montana. At the time we lived in a ****ty broken down house in Moccasin that ...my parents were trying to refurbish and purchase for a dime. My dad drove me to this house and out front sat the most beautiful truck I had ever seen. It was a perfectly patinaed 1966 long bed Chevy C20 with a 250 straight-6. It was a "Camper Special" and had the original camper shell on it. We talked the guy down from $600 to $500 and drove it home the 30 or 40 miles to the house, and it never ran after that. After countless hours and dollars it never ran again.

I had no real experience with mechanics and no real money. Eventually I sold it it to a shifty crook named Chris for $200, and he only paid me $100 over the course of several months.

This began my infatuation with old school cars and trucks. When I was 17 I had bought and sold over 20 vehicles. Some gems were, a 1972 Buick Skylark with a 430 Wildcat, a baby blue 1965 Impala SS with a 327, my pride and joy and high school sweetheart, a 1965 Chevy impala with a 396 an a turbo 400 and a 1983 Chevy Caprice that was absolutely ghetto with a gold grill and deep-dish Cragars (before they were cool).

I always wanted my truck back. Especially after Shifty Chris put a *****in 350 in it. I searched for several years for the right one to come along and finally I found it 20 years later. A guy in Lockwood had it on Craigslist for $2600. I offered him $500 and I think I would have gone to $1000, but he told me to take a hike.

Two years later I saw a similar truck a 1964 C10 Long bed, beautiful patina, lots of rust and white-walls. God, I love white-walls. The guy had it listed for $1600 obo. I got to his house and saw a sign for $1100, so we were moving in the right direction. I pulled some **** that I saw on "Fast and Loud", old Richard Rawlings, my idol, always starts at half and settles slightly over. I offered my hand at $800 and said, "let's just call it a deal". He took it after what seemed like hours.

I bought it with the promise of getting a title, and luckily, it came the next day. I went and picked up the truck with the help of my loving fiancé and it died at the stop sign, feet from their house. The previous owner was gracious and came home from dinner to help me out with a jump and I drove her home. After driving my new truck for several weeks I decided that I missed the excitement of horsepower. I began looking for a motor and found one on Craigslist and paid the full asking price for a 389 Pontiac with two four barrel Edelbrock carburetors, and a TH400 automatic transmission. It had been freshly rebuilt.

I stopped my a custom shop and asked the owner if he would help me install it and let me help out. He kindly agreed and I have been working on it after work and on the weekends for the last few weeks. A few upgrades include, an aluminum radiator from Radiator Works, a Lokar 32" long shifter and several other rat-style upgrades. The goal is to have it lay frame and be a low down, dirty rat-rod pickup that makes jaws and panties drop. I even invested a few bucks on a pinstriping brush and have been learning to lay down some sick art. My hope is that I can be diligent and keep notes and a photo/video journal of the whole process.
