Gunk in exhaust port. Solution

I was removing my intake manifold to replace the gasket and saw the below in the back two exhaust ports. I assume this was coolant. What's the best way to clean this out - along with the whole area - before replacing the gasket and putting the manifold back on. I have no idea how long its been like this as I've had the truck less than a year.
