painting new parts

Hi - I got an old stepside bed for my truck. in pretty good shape. im gonna do a temporary rustoleum paint job on the bed. i had to buy a new front panel and rear sill..... keeping in mind that im doing a temporary inexpensive paint job for now, can i just scuff up the new parts that have black primer, or do i need to strip that off? i dont want to do un necessary work. i want my temporary paint to hold up reasonably well.
