Rear axle vent tube question

Is there suppose to be a 'check valve' or anything in the vent tube hose on the rear axle? Or is is just a hose routed up high?

The stock vent tube hose that I removed was clamped to the rear axle and bolted to the stock panhard bar crossmember, but there was nothing inside the end of the hose.

I was thinking about running the vent hose along side the rear brake hose (seen below) with a clamp or zip tie.

If there is suppose to be a 'check valve' does anyone have the part number? I've done a few searches and came up empty handed.
