700R4 driveshaft question

Hey guys,
I got the 700r4 installed in my 72 lwb but now the issue is the 2 piece drive-shaft that came with the new trans. The section between the trans and carrier bearing cross member is shorter..can I just move the cross member like I did for the trans? What's the best way to measure how much to have removed from the back section of drive shaft?

Thanks
