Help with my dash holes

So, I bought this 68 short fleet a few months ago and the PO had bolted this piece of aluminum painted black over the radio and ash tray holes on the dash. Today I finally got a chance to take that piece off and see what's underneath. Ashtray hole looks fine, radio hole... Not so much.
My question is what options do I have fixing this without breaking the bank ? Should I just straighten/fix it as well as I can and stick a stereo in it ? Any input will be appreciated.
