Would you buy new tires

So I bought a truck a couple years ago, and it had almost new BFG AT load range E's on it. I took them off since they are 285's and a tad to big for towing heavy with just a smallblock. Now that I've got the tires off the rim I see there are small patches on the insides of the sidewalls. Looking close, there is a 1/2" slice on the outside of each that was glued/sealed shut when the patch was placed.

So, would you worry about them? My brother worked in a shop doing tire repair when he was younger and he thought they would be fine on any truck that wasn't hauling heavy. I could run these on a occasional use truck but if there is any chance of a blowout I won't. I don't care if they would leak, but o only care if they would fail catastrophically. Being a heavier truck tire, it doesn't seem like they would under lightly loaded conditions. Thoughts?
