Look where the exhaust manifold meets the intake. They're bolted together right under the carb. usually see the valve or the remains of it there. mirrors are good for checking the bottom.

I've been doing carbs, all kinds of carbs since '71 or so including lots of those Rochesters. I usually get them fixed OK.
