Lower control arm question.

Hello. I have a 66 c20 with like zero caster in the alignment. I've read post with moving the lower control arm mounting forward in I think 67 and newer front clips. ( the ones with U bolts that hold the lowers to the clip). I have the old style so that isn't an option and I want a lot more caster. I feel I have good fabrication skills and I want to buy an aftermarket set of newer style (U bolt) lowers and modify and relocate the lower ball joint forward. My question is..are U bolt style lowers the same as the old style? Can I buy the newer U bolt style, modify it, remove the control arm shaft and replace it with the older cast style lower control arm shaft that fits my front clip?
