Why don't you just keep things simple? The more people that chime in, the more confusing it will be.

Go with your 350 idea. Hop the motor up a bit if you want to. It sure won't be a fitment issue.

Keep the transmission simple, with fewer electronics. I did an NP 440/MY 6 tranny for my 383 small block. Used the bell housing shown above and the GM version bolts right up. .73 od on 4th gear and it just plain works. You can find this transmission out there still (s-k speed had four of them still) and they are reasonably affordable. You may have to scrounge for the Hurst Shifter but you'll find it!)

There is a thread here on the forum on this tranny. A bit old school but that's the whole point. Simple works!!! I lol see if I can find my old thread and bring it back up...
