alternator/wiring

Hello all. Im in the process of making my 69 c10 road worthy. I drove it around one night and noticed all lights dimming. Also, one of my turn signals stopped working. I cleaned the ground wire on the signal light and that got it working again. Im guessing maybe the alternator is starting to go. I currently have an external regulator and am wondering if I should convert it to internal. Im not sure what advantages it will give me but I want to go the best route. Any help on my situation would be greatly appreciated!
