66 power steering Question during mod

I'm almost done with the power steering mod on my 66. I used Captain Fab's bracket and all the parts new/reconditioned from a 74. I have everything installed but I'm having a heck of a time getting the pitman arm attached to the steering linkage. Looking at it, it looks like even if it was attached it would hit the crossmember. I looked at a bunch of the old threads and the pitman arm looks like the correct one. My first thought was that I had the wrong pitman arm.
SO, any ideas, suggestions, tricks on how to get the pitman arm attached to the steering linkage? I unhooked the linkage from the drivers side front wheel but it still doesn't look right. I dont' want to force it, when I force things they tend to break.
