do alternator voltage regulators have heat sink compound on the back side?

Took my 87s alternator apart to blast/tumble it I mean completely apart and while assamelbing back I noticed the voltage regulator on the back side (on the metal plate) was pretty dirty with gunk so I started cleaning it off.

Then I thought wait was that heat sink compound I just removed? maybe not but wanted to sure to know to put some back if it was and i can't find a dang thing on a deco 12si alternator and heat sink compound on the internet! but i think it may have been?
