Coin Ring Project

I have been on a creative kick lately. Here are a few coin rings I made today when I got irritated at my truck:

And how to do it:
Used a set of calipers to find the center. Measure the coin and the punch and divide it in half then draw lines all over the coin using that measurement. Just FYI you need to do a minimum of 7/16'' hole to fit the mandrel.

Punch kit from Amazon (its all from Amazon):

Punched the coins:

You can drill them as well. Just make sure it is centered.
Dapping block:

This isnt needed but makes a better start on the mandrel.
Use the mandrel to bend the wide end down.

I hit the coins with a red scotch brite pad then some steel wool. Didnt get around to actual polish. Made one out of a Japanese coin for a Japanese friend and one out of a New York State quarter for a friend from New York.

I didnt show the annealing process because I didnt have enough hands. I heated the coins with a MAP torch until red hot (dont go red hot with silver coins...burn one of those up...) then dunk it in water. I had to do it a few times as the coin will work harden during the hammering.

Another cheap gift idea for all the significant others out there
