72 c20 engine compartment wiring question

I'm in the process of putting my truck back together and am having issues with lights (imagine that). I have gm shop manuals with wiring diagrams but they are for a 70 truck. I would have thought they'd be the same for 72 but I noticed my front side marker lights aren't wired like the diagram. They do not have a wire that goes to ground but rather goes back to the steering column. I'm guessing maybe in 72 the marker lights blinked with the turn signal?

It looks as though the 70 circuit is designed so that the side marker provides the ground for the front parking/turn signal lamps. I do not seem to have a good ground with my current setup and am wondering where the ground should come from.

I replaced my steering column with a tilt which adds questions to the issue as well. What's the best way to ensure that is grounded?

Thanks for any help.
