question about a mud only truck

I am building a mud only truck and looking for 1.5-2 inchs more lift. it has brand new 8 inch springs and I'm in the middle of a 4.5 inch drop perch build. now besides axle wrap and generally being unsafe on the road would it be that bad of a idea to build my own zero rate addaleafs? just make them a bit thicker? ill still be bolting to the spring. I have 3 inchs extra on the ubolts I haven't cut off yet so I think I can do a 1.5 inch safely. what do you guys think?

these are the 1 inch zero rates http://www.offroaddesign.com/catalog/Zero%20Rates.htm
