Thought I would start a thread for everything VIN and Engine I.D.

As I discover more info I will share links. Feel free to ad links you have stashed in your internet libraries.

Some basic info:

1) Vin# is located on driver side front door pillar between hinges.

2) This is the # that originally matched the title. HOWEVER over the years as titles were lost and replaced, vin. plates fell off etc. Many states would retitle using engine #. Then engines got swapped on some trucks and made things even more confusing. Then some states would do an "assigned" vin # that could be as long as a current car vin. but it never got stamped anywhere on the truck.

3) If you have a truck with no title, ever state has some way to resolve it. Some easy, some hard, Regardless always check with the DMV or equivalent in your state.

4) If you have a title but no vin plate on your door pillar and the # does not match your engine # either, (again it is best to check with your DMV and I in no way represent knowledge of law), many aftermarket parts suppliers repop authentic door pillar tags that can be restamped. www.classicparts.com is one that I know of. Sure there are plenty of others

I strongly suggest following the law and by no means recommend #4 above as a way to skirt the law.
