Couple questions about heat, and deleting A/C

My truck is a 79 C10, bought it a few months ago. Barely had it running before I tore into it and this is my first C10 so I'm ignorant as to how some of the symptoms function. It had about 1/3 of the A/C system there when I got it, and that's fine because I don't want A/C anyway. I live in Wisconsin so it never really gets that hot, I like the windows down fresh air, and most of all I like the simple, clean "less is more" look. I'm not worried about the engine compartment right now, but I'm getting started on the interior and would like to eliminate the A/C ducting, vents, and controls. I found a non-A/C control panel locally on CL. It's from an '83, I assume that will work? What vents are for A/C and which are for heat? From what I've gathered they are completely separate? I was temped to eliminate heat as well, but it really doesn't gain me anything to do so and I would like to retain defrost, at the very least.
