Power steering pump bracket & pulley - were 4x4's different?
I'm replacing all sorts of things on my '72 K10 to get it more road-worthy. While I have the radiator out and belts off, I was going to replace the power steering pulley, since the old one is pretty badly bent. But I've had a heck of a time finding the right pulley, and learned a few things along the way. The stock pulley for a SBC power steering application is available through Alan Grove Components, but it sits too far forward for my setup. My crankshaft pulleys are correct. AGC sells a special set-back pulley, but that's too far back. I sent some photos to those guys, and they said I had the 65-66 power steering pump bracket. Apparently the "stock" brackets for a '72 (in most applications, at least) bolted to the block and then "jogged" rearward, setting the pump back another quarter inch. Searching here, however, I find a lot of people looking for the same pulley I have and need, PN: 3993325DJ I doubt all those trucks got swapped over to a 65-66 bracket.
Did the 4x4 trucks come with an older style bracket for some reason, setting the PS pump further forward? Anyone have a photo of their PS pump bracket on a 72 4x4? As you can see in my photo, this PS pump bracket bolts to the block and comes straight out to the pump, with no rearward bend. Finally, I haven't been able to find a new/repop 3993325DJ pulley anywhere. Anyone got one laying about they'd like to move?
