Why did i do that?

Truck had some mufflers from the 70's and a 327. Well 327's are crackly with headers and long story short i grenaded a rusty old muffler but before that the truck sounded bad to the bone! Very open flowing it was kinda too loud but sounded great. I have a 350 with a 268h in it now and with the old mufflers (tuning out the blown one lol) you could hear the cam really good it sounded like a race car! Choppy at idle and roared up till about 4K then it was raspy and sounded awesome at anything past that. Well I just put super 40's on it and I hate it. It sounds like a newer car just s quite constant hum. It never gets raspy or a little crackly. so now I don't know what to do.. I miss the old sound but no idea what kind of mufflers they where.. It doesn't ever like hit that point of when it really seems to open up..
