69 C10 on 97 C10 chassis + 97 full dash, seats and floor
Hi, George here from Blairmore Alberta Canada. My 1st post here. I've seen a lot of creative fellows take their 67 - 72 cabs and place them onto the 2wd or 4x4 GMT400 or even newer GM truck chassis and they look and perform great. I've always intended on doing the exact thing but with a bit of a twist: Leave the modern donor truck's complete dash, firewall, floor and seats on the chassis and fit the 67 - 72 cab to it. That way a guy can have his old Chevy seriously optioned up with a Vortec 350, 4 speed auto OD, AC/tilt/cruise, crash air bags, ABS, the complete modern dash and seats and carpet, the gas tank safely in the frame and more. So I got ahold of a 69 Chevy 1 ton farm truck with a good cab and front clip and I had the 97 GMC 1500 extended cab truck sitting here already so I just went at it. I lifted the 69 cab off its frame and then cut away the complete firewall and floor and then made the same basic cuts to the 97 cab that I had left on the chassis because that's what I'd be welding the 69 cab to.
Lots of cutting but I got it done in a few days and I'm ready to begin welding it all together. After she's all welded together I'll decide if I'm going to make a flat deck or use a nice 88 to 98 Chevy shortbox stepside box or a long box I have here. Because the donor truck's an extended cab I'd have to shorten the frame for either box anyway. I'm thinking the stepside box would look the best. Here's another thing I could do. Because the cab will be able to be bolted to any 88 to 98 GM truck up to a 1 ton... and I do have a nice 98 GMC 3/4 ton 454 4x4 and my scatterbrain's considering doing THAT swap now haha!! I get an idea and roll with it. I converted the 98 GMC's FI to a nice carburetor setup because I'm old school and I prefer the big bottom end punch I get out of a carbed and 454. I had a little trouble uploading the pics so this might help someone else, I ended up uploading just 1 pic at a time and it seemed to work okay. |
