Various lowering questions

Is it better to lower a rear using 2" lowering blocks and 2" lowering springs for a 4" drop---OR use 4" lowering springs only?

Also, will my '68 stepside "bottom out" easily with a 4" drop or should I use a "C" notch? I lowered my '96 P/U 4" in the rear and it bottomed--not pleasant at all Had to take 2" back out of it to ride right. Thanks!
