Brake Booster Adapter

My C30 has power brakes on it from the factory, I suppose (I have seen this on other trucks as well). The booster is mounted to the fire wall using an adapter that kicks the booster at an angle to the fire wall. It also has a linkage that connects from the brake pedal to the booster rather than a simple rod. My question is why did the factory do this? Is it for clearance of the valve covers on the engine? Mine is in good shape, so I will reuse it- I am just wondering why the factory did this.

Might as well ask- if the booster is bad on mine, where can I get a repro version or an after market version that will work? I am going discs on all 4 corners.
