Shaved Door Handle back to Stock Question

I have a cherry set of doors that came with my truck but, the door handles have been shaved. I originally planned on keeping the shaved handles but, I have decided I actually prefer the look of some exterior trim such as door handles. Anyway, Can I just drill holes for the stock handles or will the area around them crack since from the factory there was a small indentation? Maybe I should just try selling my doors and trying to find a cherry set with stock handles.
