Push vs Pull inside door handles?

My '50 has one inside door control that requires you to pull it to open the door (bar attachment on top), while the other side requires that you push it to open (bar attachment on bottom). A little research reveals that Chevy made this change in the early years of production, but the exact date seems a mystery. Clearly, one of mine has been replaced, but which one?

For obvious reasons I'd like to make mine both operate the same direction. Which is right for a 1950? Is the Push style available in reproduction or will I have to look for used?
