Power seat wiring/ mounting issues

So I am putting seats out of a 06 gmc in my 64. They are power seats. When I bought them they were not in the truck. I am trying to mount them but the passenger seat is in about the mid position covering up the mounting holes. I'm not terribly worried about having power seat but need to move the seat back to get to the holes. I grabbed some wire and ran a power wire from the battery to the orange wire and black to ground. Once I did so I got some sparking on the ground side once I hooked up the power. I never could get the seats to move. I put my ohmmeter to the two wires and for nothing on both driver and passenger. Am I doing something wrong or what? Any advice or tricks so I can move the seats just to get them mounted? Thanks in advance.
