Chevy 292 Muffler Question

I have searched around for this but wanted to get a bit more specific input on my question.

My wife has her 66 C10 pickup and her father had her 292 rebuilt and hopped up a bit for her. New pistons stiffing valve springs mild cam etc.

He also got her the Clifford 292 truck headers. And my question is a little complicated. Typically I like for her to do the research and decide what she wants to do with things so she can learn. However, we are both not 100% sure on this.

The exhaust features two long tube headers that end in two 2.25in collectors. We plan on extending that with an x pipe that then goes back and goes into a muffler and dumps before the rear axle. However, in her research, she seems to think that it is possible that instead of going into a single muffler (2x2.25 in and 2x2.25 out) that it might be better to go into two mufflers, one per each side (1x2.25 in and 2.25 out x 2)

I am not quite sure but I feel like the benefit of a single muffler is backpressure, which you want more of on the low end and less of the high end, and the benefit of two mufflers is less restriction/backpressure which you wand more of on the high end and less of on the low end.

Would you guys agree with this, or am I completely wrong? I think if she wants to go with the dual muffler setup that is fine, but she will simply loose a little on the low end.
