Help please

I got a 1984 Chevy Silverado c/k 20 series 4x4 3 quarter ton pickup I just replace the gas tank on it brand new I hope everything back up to get around the block and next thing I know it dies off and acts like it's out of gas I put gas in it it would not start only time it starts when I prime the carburetor with gas I replace the fuel filter in the carburetor can't find the main line canister filter anybody out there please help me figure this problem out I need to take my butt back to work if my truck is down I can't go to work please
