Oil cooler required?

Hey guys, just in the process of cleaning up my 5.7 for the install into the 53.
Was wondering if the oil cooler is required on these engines. I live in a fairly cool environment and it obviously won't be towing or hauling anything.
Would just like to make the install as clean as possible and don't want the lines in the way. Also don't have the factory rad for the lines to go to anyway.
So is it possible to just loop it or close the lines off at the filter?
