Aftermarket gauges in stock instrument panel

Saw this from Eastwood's "how to" series, that shows how to replace the idiot lights with gauges.

I'd like to try this, but upon a closer look at the instrument panel out of my '62 C10, I see there's very little space between the face plate and the back of the lens (about 1/8"). This means my set of Auto Meter gauges won't fit, as the bezels stick out 3/8". So I'm looking for gauges that fit as low as possible onto the face plate, with 1/8" or less of bezel thickness. Any suggestions?
