4l60 Drive Shift Lenth
I finally got a solution to my Drive Shaft situation. I wanted to use a good one piece but was concerned about clearance of the center crossmember where the carrier bearing goes.
Okay I have a 350/4l60 combo setting in the slots closest to the firewall.. My measurement from back of Trans (flange) to center of the flange for the U-joints was 67 inches. I went to a Bone yard and pulled out a shaft from a 1996 Suburban. Which is a HD Aluminum with plenty of Length for my application. The Drive Shaft Shop chopped 6 1/2 inches off and rebalanced plus installed a U-joint to fit the 1972 rear axle yoke on my truck... Great Fit, I didn't get any Pics of the shaft in my truck yet but if weather permit I will later today but here's some of the Shaft before and after Pics.. Oh yeah I had to remove the mount that holds the carrier bearing so the shaft would set in the center of the opening of the crossmember.... Hope this helps someone else looking to do a one piece swap.....
