Repair turn signal housing studs in my grill

So I needed to paint my otherwise perfect grill on my 88 CC. Last light as I was taking it apart I ran in to a big problem. All the studs that hold the signal housings were brittle and snapping off instead of releasing the speed nuts. After thinking through several ideas that were going to take lots of effort I came up with this simple solution.

Using a dremel cut out just the area of the stud all the way through the grill.
Used 1/4 by 1 1/4 elevator bolts cutting the hole just big enough for the base of the bolt to fit in the hole snug. The elevator bolt only sticks up about 1/8" when seated and clears under the molding . Follow along with the pictures to see how I did it.
