The way the trans shifts really is fairly simple, electronically speaking anyway. 2 solenoids, powered by 12v, and just a combo of grounds to activate.

1st Gear: Sol A: GND. Sol B: No GND.
2nd Gear: Sol A: No GND. Sol B: No GND.
3rd Gear: Sol A: No GND. Sol B: GND.
4th Gear: Sol A: GND. Sol B: GND.

You'd think it would be cheaper for someone out there to devise a raspberry pi circuit board or similar to get the "computer control" done on the cheap.
