72 C-10 New Suspension
I am a newbie (first thread) on here so please forgive any mistakes on this post. Currently I’m trying to set up a new suspension for a 72 C-10. When I bought the truck it was already lowered quite a bit. Not sure how to measure how much, but both front and rear fenders cover about 2” of the 275/45/20 tires. This rides way too hard and bottoms out front and back at times. Front tires have massive negative camber. Not sure what the angle is but the top of the tires are about 1” in too far with a good inch of spacers on the A arm. The front end steering pieces are all good and tight, even ball joints. A arms/bushings are good as well. I suspect the camber issue is that the earlier owner lowered 4+ inches with springs only.
Basing desired new measurements for height on information pulled from other threads here, the current idea is to replace the front springs with stock springs and add a 2.5” drop spindle. Replace the rear springs with -2” and remove the 3” lowering blocks. Oh, this does have coils spring in the rear. The front tires will remain 27/45/20 while the rear will be 275/60/20. Front tires are just under 30” tall and rear are about 33” tall. (Don’t have the sheet with exact measurement with me)
IF my measurements and calculations are correct, this will bring back the 2” rake, rear to front. It will also place the fenders about 1” above the tires.
If anyone can give me a sanity check on this, it will be greatly appreciated. I’m very open to any criticism even if this is all a bad idea. My wife doesn’t mind the money spent if this turns out good, not so much if it has to be redone… Also if all this is correct, I will work on a calculator that anyone else can use by just plugging in some measurements and tire sizes. May be a time saver for future people doing this. Of course it will be shared on here for anyone to use. Researching the stock sizes and measurement was the hardest part of this.
