Need help with gas leaking from inlet

Finally rebuilt my carb to remedy my non-functioning accelerator pump. Previously, I had sealed up the threads on the filter fitting with teflon tape to get it to stop leaking. I didn't have the fitting gasket. My rebuild kit didn't come with one, but I grabbed one from another kit. It leaks, a lot. I even tried an AC o ring with no luck.

I don't have the spring for behind the filter, or the little gasket that goes in front of the filter inside the fitting. Should I just go ahead and reseal it with teflon? I know teflon is not a great choice on those threads, but I can't think of anything else to seal it up.
