Common Quirks As A Classic Chevy Owner?

Hi guys! I've noticed an issue on more than one of the Chevy's we have. When turning the key to RUN position to start on the 62, 67 C-10s and 57 Bel Air, it makes 1 tick/tap noise but will not turn over. It almost sounds like something is tapping something every time you tap it to Run. It's random, and sometimes if you have the patience to keep trying, it will finally seem to engage and turn over. All 3 are vehicles are AT Column shift, and the BF has a theory that if you slam the shifter through all gears and back into Park/Neutral, it makes it start. I haven't seen this happen regularly to make me think this is where the issue somehow lies. Have any of you experienced this? What was the solution for you? Also, what other quirks do we have to work through as owners of these Cool Old Classics?
