Door Switches Necessary?

My instructions from the Painless Wiring Kit state that the interior lights are switched through the optional door switches and/or the dash-mounted headlight switch. It states that these switches supply ground to the circuit.

In goes on to say that if you are using door switches, you will need to add wires connecting them.

I never noticed before but our truck doesn't have the door switches. Should I drill holes and install the switches or will the ground for the headlight switch be all I need?

Thanks,
POP
