Stainless Tail Light Brackets 47-53?

I bought those fancy stainless steel tail light brackets that mount to the rear bed stake. However, when I removed the original brackets I found them to be much longer, and the holes are wider. Heck, the left side with the license plate holder looks like it's a real challenge. My originals mount toward the fender, or front side, of the stake. If I did that with these, I couldn't mount the license plate. What I've see at Jim Carter's website indicates there is a change between the 1947-1950 and the 1951-53 in how they mounted the lights because of the bumper. But it still isn't clear to me, as these are listed as fitting 1947-1953. Is there a solution? Am I missing something? What did others do?

Thanks for any replies, I bought my 1951 in July 2016 and named her Mabel. This is my first post.
