Emissions question on 87
I am in the process of putting a new engine in my 87. I am about ready to set the engine in, but have found that my AIR pump is locked up. It had a belt on it, but it is tight! My question is, how important is it to emissions. There is no hose or tube going from it to the cat, so I am sure it is not working now. Can I eliminate all of the hoses and such, then plug the holes in the exhaust manifold? I do have to pass smog, but I don't want to have find a bunch of obsolete crap, either. IIRC, the air pump does not work after the truck is warmed up, correct. If that is the case, it should not effect emissions as the truck is moving, as we have to do a dyno test for emissions. Any advice would be appreciated.
