Ugh, old thread, same problem. And I'm a commercial electrician - this thing has me stumped. Yeah, I'm a newbie-ish, but been lurking, reading and learning for years.

1972 GMC K2500 4x4, 350 engine, externally regulated. Voltage guage, not light.

Simply converting to internally regulated may do nothing, I want to fix this problem then convert later.

New everything, battery (x2) regulator (x2) alternator (x1)

12.4volts best I can get. Battery won't charge. But never has never died while engine runs, telling me the alternator is working, lights are bright, fan motor etc all on - just no juice to the battery.

This seems to be a common problem with these trucks. Rewire with new oem engine compartment harness? 2 days in troubleshooting, I need a beer.
