67 SWB 2wd L31 T56 Build
Hi guys,
I haven't been here in years. I'm about to get back into my 67 short bed project and I'm looking for any help i can get. I've had the truck since I was 16. I'm 28 now. It started life as a straight 6 3 speed on the column. Right now its just a roller. Its pretty rough but I will drive it as a bit of a rat. I plan on using the truck for burnout/hot rod type driving. I put a 4:10 posi in it and will run a T56 out of a LT1 camaro/trans am. I have a L31 vortec 350 engine for it that had a bad intake gasket. I picked up a GM performance dual plane intake which converts it over to a 4 barrel. My original plan was to use the LT4 hot cam because I have an old super chevy (i think) article where they make approx 425hp/tq with this eng, cam, stud the heads, valve springs, the intake i bought, a 4 bbl and headers. So with 425 hp 4:10 gears and a 6 speed it should rip pretty good. Heres my predicament right now. Im going to look at a complete LT1 T56 car with a bad engine that i intend to buy and use the trans and drivers bucket seats and then resell the car. The owner has the LT4 Hot Cam and roller rockers and associated parts he will throw in for more money. I want to make sure that this is my best choice for a cam before i go to buy this thing. A lot of guys online say go with the 395 ram jet cam in a truck and that the LT4 hot cam is no good in a truck. Should i worry about using the hot cam? I figure with the truck being a SWB, on the light side, with 4:10s and a 6 speed its really going to be driven more like a car anyway...... The most i will haul with it is my shovelhead. Any input appreciated. And thanks in advance. |
